Weather notes say temperatures remained high after a brief prospect of cooler air yesterday afternoon. The wind faded overnight and the city stayed hot around midnight as a heat wave continued. Senator David I Walsh will offer an amendment to place the Senate on record regarding Irish independence when the Borah resolution is reported. The Foreign Relations Committee decided to report the Borah resolution minus the original preamble which sought hearing for Irish delegates seeking recognition of the newly declared republic.
New England senators vote on ratification with Fernald Hale Keyes Page Walsh in support and Dillingham Lodge Moses Brandegee McLean Gerry Colt opposing. Pair votes show bipartisan backing for the amendment, while others resist.
The Senate approved the Susan B. Anthony constitutional amendment 56 to 25 with House action 304 to 89 on May 21. The measure, drafted by Anthony in 1875 and introduced in 1878, now goes to the states for ratification by three fourths of legislatures. Counting paired and absent members, the roll showed 66 to 30 in favor.

New Bedford faces a citywide stoppage as 95 percent of the textile mills remain closed due to a strike by engineers and firemen. The Central Labor Union led by President John T. Sloan calls special union meetings to vote on a general strike with results announced Friday night.
The Central Labor Union announced that a general strike vote could halt work by letter carriers postal workers plumbers carpenters electrical workers street car employees and city laborers. Unions aim to pay strike benefits despite weak finances, with Textile Council President Abraham Binns signaling a heavy mortgage on Labor Temple may be necessary.
