Daniel J. Leary of Ladder 18 Pittsburg street fractured two ribs last night after falling while searching 293 Congress street. He, 43, from 45 Pleasant street Dorchester, was taken to Haymarket Relief Hospital. No fire found in the building. a passerby dialed the alarm thinking he saw signs of a blaze.
The House committee on rules will report Monday against admitting Mayor Curley’s five cent fare bill. The deficit would be covered by general taxation. A canvass yesterday indicates votes against the bill, ensuring an adverse report.

A horse owned by F. E. Giles ran amok in Somerville injuring Patrolman Chester J. Warner and Richard Cotter. The animal struck Catherine Buckley’s auto and an ice wagon, overturning the milk wagon and trapping Cotter. Cotter was hospitalized for elbow and hip injuries while Warner tackled the horse and held it until help arrived.
The United Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees and Railroad Shopmen on the New Haven Railroad adopted a resolution unanimously condemning the United States Labor Board and urging Massachusetts members of Congress and Lodge and Walsh to abolish it. Strike ballots have been sent to various New England points and are soon to be opened in this city. A committee was named to poll the votes upon receipt.
Washington June 1 Attorney General Daugherty won a victory as the House committee on rules reversed and reported against investigating the war grafters. The move followed Republican push by Woodruff and Johnson who charged inaction by Daugherty. A federal grand jury in Washington is already at work.
The Times reports the betrothal of Captain Henry B. Montagu son of the late Lord Montagu and Rosamond Fay daughter of the late Dudley Bowditch Fay of Boston. Miss Fay lives at 287 Beacon Street. Her brother D Arthur Fay Harvard ’18 and John H Fay Harvard student. Father Dudley Fay died Feb 27 1921.

The House rejected the bill by 57 to 148, blocking a proposed raise of 2000 dollars for Supreme Court judges. It would have allowed the higher salary while preserving a 7500 dollar annual pension on retirement.
The bill won support from a large portion of the judiciary and the ways and means committees along with Republican leaders. Proponents argued it justice to the seven Supreme Court justices who accepted appointments with pensions in mind, while opponents argued the $10,000 salary plus a $7300 pension already fairly compensates judicial duties.
If Harvard imposes yearly admission limits and uses non scholastic criteria Radcliffe College is certain to adopt the same policy. The move would align two major institutions, Harvard and Radcliffe, though Radcliffe officials will not discuss Harvard's proposed change.

Four year old Ellen Mills, daughter of Mrs. Margaret Mills of 92 Fifth Street, South Boston, was struck by a City Point car near her home and thrown in front of the car between the tracks. The wheels passed over her body, but she escaped serious injury. minor bruises were found on her head and leg. The motorman said the child darted from the sidewalk as the car approached and braking could not stop the momentum in time.

Miss Susie Carso aged 19 of 78 Prince Street drank poison late last night in front of her North End home and collapsed on the sidewalk. She was taken to Haymarket Relief Hospital in serious condition. She gave no reason for the act and works as a packer in a North End candy factory.
Council Bluffs June 1 United News. A party described as a strip poker game involving about 20 male and female graduating class members at the Abraham Lincoln School will be investigated by the local board of education. If proven the entire class could be barred from graduation.
