The crew of the 45 foot motorboat Rough Rider fought a fire caused by an oil stove explosion 25 miles off Gloucester at noon today. They escaped to the seine boat to flee the burning vessel.
Shortly after, a crew of four men and Captain Wyderman reached a safe position and fought the fire with buckets of water. The gasoline launch Alice rushed to assist and after a hard fight both crews succeeded in extinguishing the fire.
Special Officer Dennis Kerrigan returned from Portsmouth with about 500 dollars worth of family jewels stolen from Roxbury households by the Roxbury quintet. They await trial June 5 in Roxbury Municipal Court on breaking and entering and receiving stolen goods charges.

Framingham June 1 The Boston and Albany roundhouse at Waverly street burned about 3 30 this morning destroying the structure and partially wrecking five locomotives inside The damage is placed at about 12 000 Two firemen Edward Gilmore and Thomas Kelley of Engine 3 were wounded when a ladder broke loose from a beam and pitched them 20 feet to the ground as they battled the flames
Kelley suffered a right knee fracture while Gilmore endured multiple cuts and bruises in the blaze. Firemen dug under rails in the yards to lay hose to the roundhouse as trains moved through, causing delays and a second alarm. They aimed water at the flames but the building was doomed and locomotives were protected as the fire spread from a burning engine firebox.
More than 250 members of the Temple Congregation Mishkan Te fila in Roxbury attended Memorial Sunday at Dedham cemetery. Rabbi Harry Rubinovitz led prayers and Cantor Julius Karlesberg directed the chants as families decorated graves with old Hebrew rites.

A group of inexperienced paddlers troubled by avoiding other canoes capsized Aronson leading to a fall. Patrolmen Coombs and Richardson aided him and the others while Patrolman Mc Nally earlier helped two women and a man who capsized near Long Bridge.
In Somerville at 22 Pitman Street, Andréw Caless captured a man inside a chicken coop after hearing loud cackling. Marciano Dente, 38, of 9 Spring Street, was arrested by Patrolman Kenney and charged with breaking and entering after a prior alarm and guard by Caless and his sons Andrew and Thomas.
Lewis R. Howe of Malden returned with his daughter Ethel M. Howe, a Malden High student, who had been missing for two weeks and found in Lewiston, Penn. The father disputed most of Earl W. Scott’s court claims about the girl and noted rumors of a Worcester marriage are unconfirmed.
A masked man robbed ticket agent Richard L. Heaphy at the Central Vermont station in Brattleboro Vermont seizing a small cash amount from the freight office. Heaphy cut telephone lines delaying police notification and the robber demanded the safe keys before taking change.
A ram owned by David Lynch of Galion Ohio developed a coat of sprouting oats after wallowing in a straw stack. Rain then sun followed for several days, causing the oats to sprout in the ram’s wool.
