Money Market Review From Boston May 31
The Boston money market ends May with subdued activity as good paper tolerances ease. Rates for double-name paper run 4 1 2 to 5 percent, single names 6 to 5 percent, and manufacturing paper near nominal at 4 percent. Loans on call with collateral are easy at 4 to 5 percent. The clearing house rate is 3 percent. New York funds bid par with 10 cents on 1000. Monthly and weekly bank statements show declines in surplus reserves and mixed loan trends. Trading in stocks is dull but firm, with Flint & Pere Marquette common rising amid improving earnings prospects.
