Port Arthur Captured Said To Fall After Fierce Assault

Reports from London and other sources claim Port Arthur has fallen after a three day combined land and sea assault. Officials have not confirmed the capture, but military men note the onslaught was overwhelming. Russian ships near Vladivostok remain offshore as Admiral Togo cannot spare vessels. Czar In Plot Of Assassins In St Petersburg

Police uncover evidence that the Czar was in the plot to assassinate M Plehve. Fifteen anarchists arrived in St Petersburg and several arrests were made before the July 14 attempt. Thieves rob parlor at Young's Hotel in broad daylight

Thieves entered the ladies reception room at Young's Hotel and escaped through a Court square window with 250 dollars worth of cut glass and silverware. The robbery occurred shortly before midnight as staff were changing shifts and guests were present in the lobby area. A cut glass clock, two gold mounted vases and various toilet articles were taken.

A 65 year old 166 Endicott street boy named Emmanuel Frasca fell four stories to the asphalt courtyard behind his home yesterday afternoon and died at Relief Hospital minutes after arrival. The accident happened after 4 o'clock when the child climbed on a kitchen table to look out the open window, missed his footing, struck a railing, and landed head first on the ground. Portland Shippers Fear Seizures Reach Oregon Ports

Portland freight firms and mills faced anxiety after eastern seizures affect goods sent to Japan. Balfour Guthrie Co and Multnomah Mills shipped flour on the Arabia to Hong Kong. Diamonds Stolen From Beacon Hill Woman as Pair Held

Mary Winslow of 47 Chestnut Street reports missing a watch, a twin diamond ring, a solitaire diamond ring, and a diamond scarf pin valued at 950 dollars. Mary J. Wright, 16, Ipswich, employed in the house, is under arrest. Chester J. Robbins, her alleged lover, is in custody after diamonds were traced to him. Only one stone recovered. Wright allegedly admitted seeing the jewels and taking them. Robbins produced the missing ring stone and refused to name others. Date of theft June 8, possession July 21.

Port Arthur Captured Reported by Weihaiwei Telegram

A telegram from Weihaiwei confirms reports from Chefoo that Port Arthur has fallen. It notes the British fleet will return to the area tomorrow and mentions Weihaiwei’s wireless station used for communication. A London telegram repeats the supposition of capture as the fleet heads back.
