July 28 report from St Petersburg says a minister was assassinated and another stoned by Nihilists in what officials call a vast conspiracy. The czar fears for his life as bombs injure multiple people and a companion is captured with a similar device.
In St Peters burg on July 28 Minister of Justice Muravieff was en route to report to the Emperor on Von Plehves assassination when stones were thrown at his carriage and windows shattered. The attackers are not yet identified but are believed to be Nihilists amid fears of a vast plot.
In Scranton Penn July 28 the United Mine Workers district board may strike May force about 75,000 men next Monday over coal company wage deductions for check weighmen. Scranton Coal Company delayed deductions today but agreed to do so after a letter from Umpire Wright. If ordered, the strike could spread across the anthracite region as firms resist alleged union recognition.
The steam ship Korea, sailing from San Francisco on July 12, arrives safely in Yokohama ahead of schedule. It carries a large shipment of foodstuffs and machinery and about 1,000,000 dollars in treasure. Russian Vladivostok fleet was feared to have captured her while en route.
ST PETERSBURG July 28 Mr von Plehve minister of the interior was killed by an assassin's bomb while driving to the Baltic station. His coachman also died and an officer of the guard perished later. About twenty injured. The blast shattered windows for half a mile and damaged paving stones. The assassin, believed Finn Leglo, was badly wounded and in hospital. An accomplice was arrested.

Ipswich July 28 The Rev E Winchester Donald D D was reported slightly weaker this evening but expected to survive the night. His condition has changed but little.
A 10,000 ton coal pocket at Portsmouth navy yard and 6000 tons of coal were burned in a large blaze. Estimated loss runs to 125,000 dollars. Cause suspected as spontaneous combustion. Fire started in the afternoon and flared again at seven o'clock. local firemen could not control it. No ship was adjacent to the burning pocket.

Alfred L. Picard an electrical contractor from 808 Atlantic avenue disappeared with $8000 from his business sale along with Ella F Berry the 30 year old bookkeeper. Picard’s wife says he left for a life with Miss Berry while Mrs Picard returned to Boston, found work, and believes he is in Denver. Picard is 50 and Miss Berry 30.
