Silver committees stay separate in Washington plan

A July conference between Senators Stewart and Faulkner decided the silver committee and the Democratic congressional committee would work in harmony but not merge. Democratic State committee votes to reconvene old convention

In Augusta this evening the Democratic State committee voted 11 to 5 to reconvene the old convention and 14 to 2 to hold it in Waterville with Portland preferred by York and Cumberland committeemen. Only six of sixteen members were present, with notable figures Plaisted Hanson and Frank among a sparse turnout. The date was set for August 6 and the prevailing view is a silver candidate will be nominated on the national platform.

Bryan Rally in Cambridge Promotes Single Tax and Free Silver

About 250 people gathered in Central square Cambridge for an open air ratification meeting for Bryan and Sewall with Edward Doherty of Boston as main speaker. Doherty urged voting for Bryan and Sewall and endorsed free silver, denouncing so called Democrats in Boston as demagogues and predicting Williams would defeat the gold bugs. He argued free coinage would retain dollar value and undermine the national banking system while urging single tax aims and support for the Democratic ticket.
