In Portland Municipal Court Judge Clifford McGlauffin sentences George Cummings to 30 days for begging. Cummings quips that he will not stay jailed long, prompting the judge to threaten four months, renewing the uncertain period before release.
Brookline resident Joseph Walker assigns direct responsibility to Senator Lodge for the wool schedule in the pending tariff bill. He says duties on wools used for Massachusetts clothing could reach 200 percent ad valorem, calling the impact an outrage and a boon to special interests.
