In Groton on July 26 a chlorine gas leak at Hollingsworth and Vose Paper Mill endangered about two hundred workers including women. The 16 ton auxiliary fishing schooner Malicia Enos, captained by Leo Joyce of Gloucester, has been missing since leaving Rockport for Georges Bank weeks ago. A fisherman's body found near Georges is believed linked to the End incident, with crew members John T Powers, John Tuddy, John Blondin, Walter McKay among the missing.
Deputy Chief Donahue and Lieutenant Lynch of Engine 4 were overcome by smoke in a lively cellar fire at Scollay Square and Court Street early this morning. The fire spread to Gale & Kent tailor shop, causing about 1000 in damage, and ladder crew Dennis Condon also fainted. Firefighters used gas masks and cellar pipes. the blaze took an hour to extinguish.
Public warning about a young man misrepresenting himself as soliciting Boston Post subscriptions for an alleged College Contest. He is said to be defrauding people in New Hampshire and Maine. The Boston Post has no solicitors for this purpose. Notify police if he visits.
Augustus Rossi, with 13 years in America, pleads for his wife and eight children to be released from immigration detainment at Ellis Island. His 16 year old Fiorine comforts siblings as Rossi seeks approval after authorities move his wife to Ellis Island Hospital following a recent medical check. Rossi cites citizenship papers and Needham town endorsements to prove his ability to support the family.

Herman Price a 30 year old Torrington ex service man escaped death at the Torrington Albert street crossing when struck by a southbound New Haven train. He clung to the cow catcher until the engineer stopped the locomotive about 100 yards past the crossing. He was taken to Charlotte Hungerford Hospital with cuts and bruises but no fractures, and his recovery is expected as his wrecked car lay nearby.
In Lawrence on July 26 Prince an Airedale owned by Jacob Wagenbach fell into North Canal during construction work. Water current from a pipe swept him toward the South bank as he swam. Three workmen formed a human chain and pulled the dog to shore after 15 minutes of rescue effort.
Joy filled the Cambridge home of Thomas H. Mahoney as his story Lamb's Plea Wins Life won first prize in the Post Ford a Day contest. A Ford sedan arrived at their door yesterday as the prize, brought by Mr Mahoney's sons Thomas and Leonard who had pleaded for it on his behalf.
National League action shows Boston beating Chicago 2 to 1 in 10 innings, then Boston wins 13 to 5 in the nightcap.Other results include New York 10 over St. Louis and Philadelphia 12 over Cincinnati in the first game, Cincinnati 7 in the opener, and Philadelphia 5 in the second 13 inning contest. Brooklyn defeats Pittsburgh 7 to 4. American League leads show Boston 3 over Chicago 1, Washington 5 over Detroit 4, Cleveland 2 over Philadelphia 0, and New York 11 over St. Louis 6. Eastern League notes Haven over Albany in a split, New Haven 8 over Albany 4, Fitchburg 5 over Pittsfield 4 in a later game.
Benny Klentak, owner of a Chelsea grocery on Second Street, told United States Commissioner Hayes that liquor was planted in his cellar to force a lease break. The defense prompted turnout of landlords and another man who signed incriminating affidavits. The commissioner asked why the prohibition law is used as a lease-breaking device.
William Smith, inmate at the Presbyterian Home for Aged Couples and Single Men in West Philadelphia, fired on two matrons today and then killed himself in a state of insanity. The matrons escaped serious injuries.
Walter Crean, age 12, with police, heads to Woodstock to compare a jailed suspect with the man seen walking toward the Great Pasture with Henry P. McMahon the day the boy was murdered. Police have conducted a wide search for the suspect since the discovery.
On July 6 an unexploded bomb was discovered near the rear of the No. 1 Pawtucket Gas Company station. The eight inch by four inch device weighed about five pounds and contained five sticks of dynamite bound with wire and wrapped in burlap. A two foot fuse was attached and the mass appeared soaked from Sunday night rain. police seized the device from the Pawtucket police.
Charles McCullum of Topsfield drove through Georgetown at 9 PM when his car caught fire. He and a lone passenger leaped out as the blaze spread. Georgetown fire department extinguished the flames, but the car was total loss.
Miss Wilma Stern a Hartford Conn fifteen year old visiting Kenberma was struck as a car swerved toward her four girls walking arm in arm. She suffered multiple rib fractures a torn lower face and punctured lung and was taken to Sturgis Hospital Allerton. Driver Harry Broomfield Brookline is summering at Kenberma. the other three girls escaped unharmed.
