Washington clashes between whites and blacks flare for a fourth night. A home defense guard is killed and another fatally wounded, with a third wounded. Army units under Gen. Haan arrive as Baker meets the President to prevent further violence.
Henry Ford, under six days of hostile questioning, settled into calmer footing in Mt. Clemens as Alfred Lucking, his personal attorney, steadied the session. Ford spoke more clearly and showed less nervousness, while resisting pressure for abrupt definitions of anarchy.
President Ford discussed a hypothetical idea raised with his advertising manager Charles Brownell. He admitted he once contemplated having Brownell rewrite the Bible into plain, modern English. The plan was never implemented.
Humphrey O'Sullivan of Lowell was endorsed for Lieutenant Governor by the Democratic Club of Massachusetts at a meeting last night. He will run jointly with Colonel William Caston, the gubernatorial candidate.
Ambassador Fletcher told the House Rules Committee that about 50 Americans have been killed or outraged in Mexico since 1917, with no arrests or convictions known. He opposed arming rebels and discussed the Gould resolution to appoint a congressional committee.

Paris July 29 The Chamber of Deputies votes 272 to 181 to sustain Clemenceau's cabinet after a tense debate with Socialists, as the veteran leader proclaims he has made war and now peace, claiming broad confidence for France.
Frank A. Steeves a Boston automobile dealer charged with the murder of his wife Dorothy by shooting was found not guilty by Judge Michael J. Murray in Municipal Criminal Court after an exhaustive review of the evidence the court found no probable cause.
In Rutland Vermont a City Court jury found Charles Turner not guilty of keeping an unlicensed dog. The case concerned Bruce the collie and marked the first Vermont trial on whether a dog has the right to live.
A gentle collie is cited as a street nuisance for jumping at horses. After two or more years of litigation, the city seeks a remedy while a custodian hires costly lawyers. The Board of Aldermen ordered the city clerk to refuse licensing and issued a warrant to the dog executioner to kill the canine.

They were lost for three hours in dense fog and heavy seas though no fatalities were reported. Several women accompanied the party.
James A. Watson and Boston party members assisted Chief Bos'as Mate Haynes to bring a small craft into dock after eight hours in the lower harbor. They welcomed Colonel Willis Stover and New England troops, then the chaser grounded on a sand bar at Graves End Bay before being guided to Battery Park where the party arrived at 2 this morning.
