Mrs. Mary V. De Minico of East Boston, 32, was shot by a Browning machine gun during an army exhibit near the Orient Heights station and is at death's door at the East Boston relief station. Privates James J. Price and George A. Kelly, in charge of the weapon, are held at Fort Banks and deny knowledge of the discharge.
Mrs. De Minico is shot in the right leg when a gun near the railway station fires while a passing automobile and trolley car cause her to leap to the curb. Privates Price and Kelly cannot explain the discharge. Police and military authorities, including Captain Harrigan, order a full investigation into the incident at Fort Banks.
Walter M. Gifford, a noted Boston coffee trader and prominent seller enthusiast, died suddenly yesterday afternoon at his Walnut street home in Newtonville from heart failure.

Announcement from Professor and Mrs. Arthur Gordon Webster of Clark College Worcester: their daughter Miss Mary Shannon Webster will marry Lieutenant James Stuart Douglas of New Orleans. The couple met in a Red Cross canteen in France last year. Miss Webster, a Smith College graduate of 1917, served 14 months in France with the Red Cross. Douglas formerly served in the Louisiana National Guard and sailed overseas with the 89th Division with units from Louisiana Mississippi and Alabama.

Washington July 23 Attorney General Palmer announced that all internet civilian enemy aliens except those who advocate anarchistic doctrines or wish repatriation will be released from detention camps. No deportation law has been enacted, so the Justice Department will free the internees.

London July 23. Fisher minister Lloyd George cabi net chancellor of education and former vice chancellor of Meld University has been named ambassador to Washington to succeed Lord Reading. Professor Fisher, who never held political office before, rose rapidly in public life and is the author of works on Philosophy. He is an Oxford and Heidelberg graduate.
