Ernest Elwin and Edward Crowley, Glines Express Company employees of Somerville, were held up and robbed of two trunk checks at gunpoint on Pearson road near Somerville shortly after 9 o clock last night.
Two men held up Elwin and Crowley near 24 Pearson Road in a residential West Somerville area. Elwin, driver, lost checks from his pockets. Crowley, asleep on the wagon seat, was similarly searched. The robbers, described as 38 to 7 years old, wore dark suits. one had a revolver and a mustache. They escaped toward Medford after the hold up.
Campbellton, New Brunswick braces as relentless rain since early morning soaks streets and ruins, with soaked clothing and bedding, a chilling east wind, and a foul odor rising from decayed vegetation in ruins, stirring fears of disease.
In a ruined Provision-store cellar a phosphorescent fire and unbearable stench spread as rain and thunder crippled the town. About 3000 displaced residents live on canvas, many away from relief, sleeping on damp mats under foul blankets. Cold food and inability to heat meals worsen the misery of women and children.
A man arrested by police in Chicago is believed to be the fugitive Dr. Crippen sought for the murder of his wife in London. The suspect has been connected to the Crippen case as authorities continue to verify his identity and details.
Police Commissioner O'Meara said he will not increase patrols on the Common. He argued that only obscene language blocks offenses and that moral standards cannot be forced. He noted the issues are not unique to the area and many innocent people are unaware they exist.

Thomas Kevill, nine, was struck and killed by the Shore Line express from New York on the Washington Street bridge near Forest Hills station yesterday afternoon. The boy, fleeing the oncoming 55 mph train, ran forward instead of leaping to the next track. The engineer applied brakes too late, and the pilot struck him, tossing him 50 feet. He died at the scene. he was from Jamaica Plain, son of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Kevill.
The Red Sox refused to lose after a rough start and a three run lead by facing Joe Lake and the St Louis Browns. Boston fought back to win 6 to 3, maintaining their winning gait and keeping pressure on Athletics and the rest of the pennant chase.
Lake stood out as the lone figure on O Connors staff feared by Boston. He defeated the Red Sox in his last meeting here and in St. Louis. His wins against the Athletics and New York on this trip strengthen his hub in this series.
Cornelius J. Riley, 26, a sailor on the U S cruiser Salem now at Charlestown Navy Yard, was killed in a street brawl at 12 20 this morning in front of 126 Court Street. A single witness, also a sailor, identified Riley and said he provoked the fight before receiving a fatal blow.

Benjamin C. Gregory age 60 superintendent of Chelsea public schools died after a broken hip from a bicycle fall three months ago. He recovered partly and recently fell again breaking the hip a second time. He had seemed to improve until last night.
Grave fears follow the disappearance of Barney Foley and Manuel Raffello after they departed Boston for Beverly aboard the 24 foot motor boat Surprise with supplies for the steamer Bay Port. They were hired by Daniel McClusky and, due to the boat being heavily loaded, concerns were raised about the journey. Tugs have been alerted but no word on the launch or its occupants by nightfall.
