New York July 21. The market resumed an uptrend with leaders up 1 to 2 points on heavy trade in United States Steel Union Pacific Reading and Amalgamated Copper. Broad activity included specialty issues rising 3 to 7 points while Wells Fargo Express fell to par its lowest in 20 years.
The Boston market shows a bullish tilt with copper consumption exceeding production by 50 million pounds over five months. Major houses like Granby, Mohawk, North Butte, Calumet and Arizona, Butte and Superior, and Amalgamated helped drive a broad rally. United Fruit jumped seven points to 164, Massachusetts Electric rose to 16, and overall prices closed near their highs.
A softer tone in U S money markets yesterday allowed banks to offer more funds to customers. Call funds in New York traded at 2 to 2.5 percent with a 2.5 percent ruling rate, while time deposits ranged from 4 to 6 percent across 60 days to six months as foreign money helped ease conditions.
July 21 report notes continued trading with grains led by coarse grains amid adverse crop advisories. Wheat shows fair strength closing near highs with gains. corn and oats also rise, while European markets lift with wheat and corn. Minneapolis receipts 302 cars vs 161 last year.
