Real Homes and Marriage Reform Vision for Child Welfare
The speaker advocates transforming county asylums and almshouses into humane homes through state supervised out placement. Emphasizing proper investigations, custodian safeguards, and ongoing reports, the plan aims to pair children with capable guardians while promoting real marriages as foundational to stable homes and lasting social reform. The approach seeks long term societal change, aided by public shock to make monstrosities visible and addressable.

Free Wool, Tariffs, and Farm Prosperity Debate
An Noi World Demag editorial argues the idea that free wool brings rain is absurd. It questions whether a high tariff raised domestic wool prices over the past twelve years and recalls slaughter of sheep for fat and pelts under a high duty, contrasting with earlier times. It asks if farmers dependence on tariffs to live is valid for crops and livestock.
Knights of Labor in Council at Lawrence Meeting
The Knights of Labor State assembly met at 2 PM with State Master Workman Crowley of Boston presiding. Reports were read and accepted, urging stronger organization and semi annual meetings, while cautions against political entanglement accompanied various resolutions. One proposed prosecuting Italian marble workers importations into Boston under alien labor law, another urged Congress to require ships flying the American flag to employ at least five eighths American seamen. The Gloucester boat manning issue prompted the latter, along with calls for back pay to Springfield armory workers and a push to simplify ritual unwritten work. The session likely closes by tomorrow night.
