Joseph F Cottringer former secretary treasurer of Central Transportation Company of Pennsylvania pleaded guilty to embezzling 147000 plus forging stock certificates for 112 shares and uttering them. Judge Yerkes sentenced him to four years imprisonment in county prison with separate and solitary confinement.
The Bank for Savings of New York and Robert Goelet obtain a preliminary injunction to stop issuing new bonds via the sinking fund. New York’s debt stands at 126 million dollars, about 14 million over the constitutional limit unless roughly 34 million of city bonds held on the fund can be deducted. The court must decide this deduction issue.
