His Method of Hatching Chickens and Its Success

From Philadelphia Record, Richard Young of Morton Delaware County explains his incubator system. An oil lamp heats a wooden box to about 103 degrees with an electric alarm that rings when the temperature breach occurs. Early trials yielded 250 viable chicks from 500 eggs. Young hopes for 80 to 90 percent with two larger incubators. He uses artificial mothers plus 150 hens to hatch. Rat trouble caused 130 chick losses, then a major rat hunt culled 26 rodents. precautions now prevent further incursions.
