W. C. Phelan, a Boston fugitive, was arrested in Montreal on a charge of circulating counterfeit money. He published a guide to counterfeit bills and detection methods while in Boston and is alleged to have passed a fake $50 bill on a North End banker and later on a confectioner at Lemonpie Place, leading to an extradition.
