Manchester July 15. The adjutant general office dispute delays 30 dollar bonuses for 800 returned service men as no official signs the checks. General Charles W. Howard was ousted by Governor Bartlett who named Major Frank J. Abbott to the office amid the Supreme Court review last Friday.

In Mt Clemens Ford testifies in a $1,000,000 libel suit against the Chicago Daily Tribune. He says he would favor another great war if the League of Nations plan fails and urges universal peace now, citing his 1915 pacifist stance and 1916 border stance. He claims the press is used as a propaganda agent.
The broadcasted material named Theo dore Delavigne as a publicity agent employed to educate the public about pacifist propaganda.
In Washington on July 15 a Judiciary Committee member warned that when the House resumes consideration of the prohibition enforcement measure an amendment would be offered to bar possession of liquor stored before July 1. The issue centers on a man’s right to keep liquor in his own home and its status under the act.

London July 15 The British airship NS-11, which departed Pulnam on a 48 hour mission for mine sweeping, is believed struck by lightning and the crew of 12 is lost. The mystery airship disappeared during a routine operation.
Burlington, Vermont July 16 Emyl Sokolis returned to West Rutland from Los Angeles and was arrested on a bigamy charge. Wife No 1 had him jailed upon learning of his presence in town. Sokolis does not deny a second wife and brought her back east with him.
The War Labor Board considered the Elevated employees dispute with a Thursday four am strike deadline. Secretary Lauck warned a strike might end board review, while Taft vacationing in Murray Bay and Basil Manley in San Diego represent employees.
Historical note marks Mrs. Mary Baker G. Eddy born in 1821. World War I item recalls Allied advances on the Italian front and a British air raid on railway targets near Armentieres Courtrai and Estaires. One year earlier, Italian front gains recounted with minor losses.

Two burglars were caught entering a Harris street house in Revere. The pair exchanged shots with four pursuing officers and volunteer thieves catchers, leading a half mile chase through town streets before escaping across the trestle bridge to East Boston.
Two youths described as likely under 12 forced entry using a false key at 128 Yaeman street after leaving a mail notice. They escaped with a few gas meter quarters and a six glass punch bowl, then targeted a Harris street house before a neighbor alerted police. Officers pursued toward Winthrop avenue and Young's Hill, but the pair vanished into the shrubbery.
