A large Tremont Temple gathering unanimously supports going on strike if the War Board does not grant a wage scale of 73 1 2 cents an hour for an eight hour day. The boycott remains in effect. Trustees insist a 10 cent fare will be paid despite reduced patronage. A zone system is discussed to ease the current crisis.
In Washington on July 14 prohibition forces gained firm control in the House by denying a straight repeal vote and defeating amendments. A proposed 2 3 4 per cent beer sale was rejected amid continual opposition, with liberals facing repeated defeats and a division demanded after the page continuation.
Arthur Garfield Honey Hazzard, known as a coreman and former suitor of Miss Mabel E. Puffer, was held for grand jury by Judge Atwood in the District Court. He faces trial on charges of stealing about $6000 from the wealthy white spinster's assets amid a sensational hearing at AYER.

Vienna reports allied powers plan to extradite Count Leopold von Berchtold and Count Czernin to determine how far their policies prolonged the war. Berchtold led Austria Hungary’s foreign ministry in 1914 before resigning in 1915, Czernin joined Burian in 1913 and was arrested in 1919 while fleeing toward the Swiss frontier.
Senator Hitchcock said after a White House call that President Wilson is ready on 24 hours notice to receive the full foreign relations committee at the White House and discuss any treaty provision or negotiation question. It was not clear if Hitchcock would appear before the committee at the Capitol, though that possibility remained under consideration.

The Steamer Gildersleeve built for the United States Shipping Board was launched today on the Connecticut river. Sponsor Miss Lucille Gildersleeve broke champagne for the christening, noting it as the largest vessel ever built on the river, with sister ship Battahatchee launched earlier.
