Drydock Plea Urges Boston Port Expansion Contract

Jerome Jones and Charles E. Gibson urged Governor's Council to approve the $9,000,000 dry dock contract as proposed by the Port Directors. They argued the dock’s rock foundation at South Boston is sufficient, cited major steamship lines paying $50,000 yearly for 20 years, and compared its importance to the historic Jdoosac Tunnel as essential for New England trade. The council did not act, and the need for an expert on finances was discussed.
