Strike Proceedings Highlight Disputes Over Witnesses and Discharges

The State Board of Arbitration hearing on the Boston Elevated Railway dispute saw Superintendent Wilkins absent despite a request, with Attorney Hurlburt resisting unsworn statements and Wahey for the strikers objecting to evidence. Witnesses Pasha and Bowen described June 7 discharges, union tensions, and efforts to maintain discipline while noting fewer accidents recently. The board paused for summer after accepting a broad company statement detailing 262 discharges in six weeks and 1112 for 1911, and discussed reemployment offers and ongoing violence incidents linked to former employees.
