In Taunton jail tonight Edward F. Easton and Warren H. Tobey both 18 pleaded guilty to attempting a daylight holdup in Hockamock swamp near Taunton. The pair known as the boy bandits were held for the grand jury in $1000 bonds.
The tale traces how Tobey and Easton, once seen as industrious church youths, drift into crime through fascination with dime novels. Easton, son of respected carpenter William C. Easton, shocked the community after confessing to involvement in a holdup, contrary to his wholesome image.
In Hyde Park on July 11 a dispute aboard an inbound Forest Hills car with four foreigners led to a small riot in Corey square. John Tennant of 80 Business Street Hyde Park was cut several times in the neck and would have fared worse without police arrival.
Five men under liquor quarrelled after an insult to Tennant on a car. Salli Rossi drew a knife, a riot followed, and Tennant was slashed on neck and face. Joseph Varianti was booked for assaulting an officer. Rossi Vittorio and Frank Andertoso held for assault with murderous weapons and breaking the peace.
In Narragansett Bay two submarines the Octopus and the Cuttlefish nearly sunk by mortar battery fire from Fort Greble. The U S S Hist and Nina and the tender Starling from Quincy were in the vicinity yesterday during the bombardment.
A target near the north end of the measured mile during submerged speed trials was hit by mortar shells weighing about 600 pounds each. Fragments showered 100 yards from the target as submarines remained unaware until surface signals ordered fast retreat. Officials aboard inspecting ships withdrew to safety.

She wandered through Everett and Malden before being found in Stoneham Wednesday afternoon by Mrs. W Wallace Richardson. After nourishment and a bath, she was returned to her mother, Mrs. Mary Duranti, who feared kidnapping.
Back Bay police report a highly valued dog was stolen from Lizzie Harris on Huntington Avenue. Officers say the canine is worth $1000 and have arrested James Fossa of 1734 Washington Street on larceny charges.
Chance Minor, a colored man, appeared before Judge Fessenden in the superior criminal court after noon yesterday and was sentenced to state prison for a term of not less than eight years and not more than twelve years.
William Lind say, 21, is dead after an attempted climb to an American flag on a new cement and steel chimney at the American Steel and Wire Company plant. Timothy Sullivan, 21, and Carl Bjorn, 15, are hospitalized in critical condition after the fall. Lindsey, at 80 feet, toppled them during the dare.
A brief four minute strike occurred yesterday morning as Italian workers on the construction department of the Boston Rever Beach Lynn railroad stopped work over hours. They resumed quickly after realizing their demand was longer hours, and the strikers dispersed.

Solomon Robitscheck and Bennett Silverblatt were arrested yesterday by United States Deputy Marshal Charles A. Bancroft and Post Office Inspector McLeod. Robitscheck aged 55, a clothing dealer and former poet of Lowell, and Silverblatt aged 33, an attorney of Lowell, faced bail set at 1000 dollars each for the charges of attempting to extort 30000 dollars.
Federal case accuses Robitscheck of offering to sell a Salvation Army poem for 30000 by mail fraud. A Boston officer and Silverblatt were involved in staged negotiations in Lowell and Boston, with a arrest and bail posted for Silverblatt as Robitscheck’s alleged writer.
Milford July 12 a posse of police and citizens searches for an unknown man suspected of belonging to the Black Hand society. The stranger threatened Emilio Gilardi a wealthy merchant with immediate death unless he produced 1000 dollars. No trace of the man was found by early morning.
