River Front Improvement Plan for Washington

Losses Over $200000 From Iowa River Storms Across the Valley

DES Morris Iowa July 11 reports a waterspout like rainstorm causing bridge washouts on the Keokuk road near Leighton and Pelta, wrecked roadbeds on the Des Moines and Northwestern line, drowned a circus, and flooded towns from Colfax to Marshalltown. In Boone and McGregor, bridges failed, engines sank, and two men drowned with two others saved. Heat peaked at 100 in shade, and Am punky damage mounted with streets, cellars, and waterworks inundated. Mrs Thomas Murphy of Ampoy was killed by a lightning strike near Amoy.

Fifty Die As Mexico Church Roof Collapses

Despatches from Oaxaca say a church roof under reconstruction collapsed in the town of Sanmatto. At 5 am Tuesday a workman fell forcing others to rush out, instantly killing worshippers mostly women. Twenty workmen also died and others were fatally wounded. The accident occurred an hour before services with fewer than thirty inside.
