Entente governments in Washington through their embassies have been briefed on the U S pledge to stand behind Russia. A plan is forming to counter German influence and help Russia rehabilitate without provoking distrust of Western motives.

Judge Loring hears hours of testimony on Dorothy A. Ormsbee's parentage as Mrs. Elogian D. Ormsbee claims she is the mother and William W. Ormsbee says he is the father. The four year old is in the custody of the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children awaiting further proceedings.
The Suffolk Probate Court appointed Parker Field guardian for Dorothy, alleged to be of unknown parentage. Mr and Mrs Ormsbee appeal, claiming to be the parents and seeking custody. Dorothy, described as fair and robust, was dressed in boys clothes and nicknamed Buster but did not attend the trial.
French forces advanced one mile reclaiming ground between Montdidier and the line to be used in a German drive. The operation yielded 550 prisoners and 30 machine guns, reflecting significant gains for allied troops.

In Tennessee near Nashville a head on crash between two passenger trains on the Nashville Chattanooga and St Louis line killed at least 100 people, most of them Black, and left many more injured with a number in serious condition.
A collision between a local Nashville bound work train and an express from Memphis and the West left many dead and injured. Doctors and nurses rushed to the scene as wreckage was cleared slowly. Some bodies remain unrecovered while survivors are treated at Nashville hospitals.
