Fire at Commonwealth docks blazes near Boston South Station
A 40 mile an hour gale fed a massive dock fire at Commonwealth docks in South Boston yesterday afternoon. The blaze consumed 1240 feet of eastern wharf and spread toward nearby buildings as the Dean Richmond drifted away from the flames. Fire crews faced hydrant shortages and hose bursts, finally using a hydrant at Pier No. 4 New Haven docks to battle the blaze.
