Explosion Kills Mrs Dickins in Washington Home

Marguerite Dickins wife of Commander F W Dickins USN died in a Washington residence blast caused by gasoline used for cleaning. The third story front was blown out at 1834 Nineteenth Street behind the British embassy. Dickins a noted naval and diplomatic figure mourned by D A R members and society.

Abner McKinley Threatens Suit Over Stock Losses

New York July 7 Abner McKinley brother of President McKinley sues broker De Ruyter Hollins for 4000 alleging margin and profit loss after a Cleveland Lorain and Wheeling stock rose then fell and was sold without his direct order. The case references a go-between and prior army contract scandals involving M R Bimberg and alleged backing of Abner McKinley.

D A R Officer Burned At Washington Residence

The vice president general of the National Society D A R was burned at her Washington residence yesterday. The Sixth Continental Congress will recall with pleasure the hospitality of Commander and Mrs Dickins, who hosted a large reception. Mrs Dickins presented Mrs Charles O Neil of Boston for vice president general Massachusetts. Mrs Dickins was philanthropic and thoughtful, notably aiding Spanish war veterans. She will be sadly missed in many circles.

Pavonia Sails Today From Boston for Queenstown and Liverpool

At 9 30 a m the Cunard liner Pavonia under Captain Atkin departs Fast Boston on a regular voyage to Queenstown and Liverpool with about 65 second cabin UC steerage and 120 saloon passengers. The long list of saloon travelers includes Frank Alexe William FE Aiken Miss Bryson Mrs S S Blanch and many others. The Dominion Maddox arrived with 48 saloon and 29 second class passengers. The Canada liner arrived yesterday with a full mixed load including cabins and steerage passengers.

Italian-stolen-jewels suspect Melani sought by Germany

Alphonso Melani a waiter, accused of stealing jewels worth $50,000 from the German ambassador’s daughter's room in Pisa on March 19. Berlin police lost track in May and suspect he fled to this country. Melani, 35, has black hair eyes mustache and a very yellow complexion. The German ambassador offers $750 for his arrest or $125 for information on his whereabouts.

Stolen Jewels List Includes Pearls and Opal Brooch

The collection described includes a pearl necklace with a diamond circlet and a gray central pearl, a large opal brooch with yellow diamonds and baroque pearls measuring 61 2 inches by 4 inches, and a rare red and green opal showing rays. Also missing are a star of diamonds with a central big diamond, old-fashioned diamond earrings, a black pearl pin, another diamond brooch, two large oval brooches, Turkish style bracelets, and smaller earrings.

Murder Trials Loom Over Somerville and Lowell

In Lowell a preliminary hearing before Judge Pickman held W. H. F. Kelley for the June 30 shooting death of Theresa Kelley, with sixteen government witnesses, six testifying, and probable cause found for grand jury action this October. In Somerville Albert A. Leland, 66, faced Police Court on June 10 assault with intent to kill 11 year old John Joseph McCarty, claiming insults led to the shooting. a 22 caliber bullet was later removed from the boy’s head, case continued for argument. In a separate murder charge, Walter Ovendon faced Municipal Criminal Court for Irene Maud Faulkner’s July 4 death, with witnesses including Miss Mabel Jones and W. W. Swan. Ovendon held without bail for the August grand jury.

Samuel Bird Charged With Murderous Assault at Joy Street

Samuel Bird an 18 year old colored lodger at 73 Joy Street is jailed on a charge of murderous assault against John Reynolds, a lodging house keeper also colored. After being ordered to leave Reynolds, Bird returned furious, drew a knife and slashed Reynolds in two places, leaving a scalp wound and a shoulder wound. Reynolds received medical attention at the station.

Seery murder case moves to micro exam of bed clothing

The government gears up for trial in the Seery murder case with limited new developments. Dr John W Pratt assistant medical examiner sent bed clothing and part of the straw mattress from Mrs Seerys dwelling to Boston for microscopic analysis revealing spots believed to be blood stains.

Molineux Case Again in New York Murder Probe

Assistant District Attorney Osborne said evidence linking Roland B. Molineux to the death of Mrs. Katherine J. Adams is nearly gathered.
