Three Die When Car Hits Auto in Warwick Crossing

Gustav Menzel of Riverside drove onto trolley tracks at the Oakland Beach road crossing near Long Meadow and Grant stations. Three occupants of the automobile, Mrs. Eva Hartley, Miss Millie J. Hartley, and Mrs. Ella M. Bidwell, died. Gustav Menzel, Raymond Hartley, and Mrs. Hartley’s husband were injured. An outward bound trolley from Providence and its crew were not charged. All injured were rushed to Rhode Island Hospital. Miss Hartley had been a Providence grammar school teacher.

Wolgast Knocks Moran Out In 13th Round Lightweight Bout

San Francisco July 4 Referee Walsh counted out Owen Moran of England in the 13th round as Ad Wolgast retained the lightweight title with a decisive knockout. Wolgast used right uppercuts to the stomach and punishing power to end Moran’s 11 year ring career in the bout.

Moran remained unbowed through thirteen rounds though tiring as Wolgast pressed with a late rally. Wolgast surged to close quarters, Moran countered with a jab but was pinned to the ropes. Wolgast broke free, delivering three hard blows to Moran's midsection from a hip-swinging punch.

Sinks Under Water Before His Friends

Cornelius Manning aged 28 of 446 Eastern avenue Chelsea drowned in Chelsea river shortly before 5 last night while swimming with companions. Manning swam far out beyond the group and suddenly disappeared from view while Dennis Dinneen and another friend, who watched, tried to reach him. Police from Chelsea and Revere and later harbor police searched for hours with no body recovered by midnight. Continuous efforts planned for today.
