Weather bureau confirms a cooldown is moving in as Greater Boston exits a record heat episode. After a sweltering day the cooler air began to ease discomfort with a breeze after sundown, offering relief to thousands while forecasts hint at continued gradual relief into midweek.
In Chelsea and Malden, Rose McCourt aged five and Frank Lynn aged four died while attempting to get ice from wagons. A crash of ice fractured Rose's skull at Frost Hospital. Driver James Thompson of Malden was charged with manslaughter as Frank was crushed when the wagon rolled over him.
A McCourt child group chased falling ice from an ice wagon on Green and Spencer streets. John Gever, the driver, leaped from a house with an ice pick and shouted for the children to move. A horse reared, sending a large ice block toward the youngsters and they were struck.
Joseph McLaughlin of 155 Rutherford avenue Charlestown wrestled his son at home. Shortly before 6 last night the son won by throwing the father to the floor fracturing the tibia of his right leg. The injured man was taken to the Re nef Hospital.
Miss Minerva Vanderbilt once stirred international attention by attempting to challenge her aged Brooklyn father E Ward Vanderbilt’s marriage to May Pepper Vanderbilt a trance medium. The report continues on page four fifth column.
Francis S. Kearns eight year old son of Patrick Kearns of 46 Mercer Street South Boston drowned last evening in Dorchester bay where he had been swimming. The body was found on the flats near Old Harbor Street.
