Small bootmakers gain edge over large rivals in credit wars

The dull boot and shoe trade exposes why small manufacturers with capital of 200 to 300 dollars win over bigger rivals. They buy stock cheap, control costs, work as owner and worker, and push cash sales with quick turnover. They hire cheap labor, cut prices when needed, and avoid bad debts from extended credits, while large firms struggle with six to nine month terms and financing costs. Concerted action to curb credit remains elusive.
