In Hartford Connecticut the national billiard championship for Connecticut and western Massachusetts opened under Mutt H Hewins with two weeks of play ahead. Tonight John A Hendricks beat Charlies Shean 300 to 267. Hendricks’ high run was 21 and his average 3.

Cincinnati donor Reuben Springer gives twenty thousand to furnish art school buildings as endowed by Judge Nicholas Longworth. A Nashville Chattanooga train wreckclaims engineer killed and two injured after a rock fall. In Rosita Col., Frank Williams and John Gray lynched after fatal saloon row. Gray dies, Williams spared claiming self defense. Colorado sees seven more lynchings in ten days. governor pressed to punish lynchers.

In Massachusetts judge sentences Martin L. Casey of Stephentown to 10 years in state prison for leading a raid into Dalton last fall stealing harnesses and goods. Patrolman Seavey heard cries from the water near Fort Hill dock about 1130 P M Tuesday. He found a man struggling, used a log to support him until help arrived, and he was rescued. The man, John Murphy of 196 Federal street, says he walked off the wharf.

In Pittsburg on Sixth street, a jewelry store proprietor Mr Lavin found his safe opened by a masked robber who forced him at pistol point into a back room and escaped with jewelry valued at about 1500 dollars.
The commonwealth case against the Dismal Swamp Canal Lottery company opened for trial in Hastings court in Petersburg Va on January 29. The prosecution seeks to determine the legality of selling Lottery tickets within the state.

Elizabeth Finnegan alias Perkins, jailed six months ago for murder on Howard street, is expected to be arraigned today in superior court. Other items note Wistall assaulted on Beach street dislocating his right leg. Putnam’s overcoat and valuables stolen. a horse and phaeton valued at 300 stolen and found on Shawmut avenue without robes. Birchmore charged with larceny of an overcoat. and Furness White reports horse and buggy stolen from Essex avenue.
The annual hall of the Charlestown high school association was held at Monument hall in Charlestown district on Tuesday evening with 260 couples in attendance. Music was by J Howard Richardson's orchestra. The Young People's Literary Association reunion at the First Baptist Church vestry featured local talent and a served collation.

Five men Sidney Fay Joseph McGilliory John McDougall John Fay and Magnus McClure were killed in a dynamite explosion near Port Arthur on the Canadian Pacific railroad on January 22. The accident occurred while the workers were handling explosives.
