A large number of small subscriptions to the Gay Head Indians fund were received yesterday by Boston newspapers and forwarded to Col. W. W. Clapp, treasurer. The total amount received and acknowledged up to last night was $1,051.20.
Susie J Bates of Clinton is 12 years old and weighs Is pounds. Joseph Kelly left Eastport in a small boat Friday for Trescott about 15 miles distant and was found Saturday frozen dead in his boat. Andrew Hughes of Prince Edward Island was arrested in Bangor for passing a counterfeit check. his accomplice John Robinson escaped across the boundary.
The Telegraph urges Nashua to receive free postal delivery and asks New Hampshire’s entire congressional delegation to secure it. The Grand Army of the Republic New Hampshire department plans its annual encampment in Concord on February 6, noting gains of ten new posts and three revived posts plus a net membership increase of 59 to about 5500. Noel Cook of Durham visited Dover and invited Frank Towle to go home. Towle seized Cook, demanded valuables, and fled after Cook surrendered $240. Cook notified police. Towle is arrested and denies guilt.
A chorus of 160 is raised for Rutland’s coming musical convention with an expected 460 voices at the event. Brandon Vossy reports an ecclesiastical council on du 22 deposed Rev. J. E. Bruce from the ministry. Bruce had been pastor of the Congregational church at Salisbury.

The body of Joseph Smith of Central Falls was found Monday frozen on Scott's pond bank in Lincoln after he had been missing since Thursday. Also, 40 year old Thomas McGrath was killed when a mill wagon toppled while a coal load crushed him in East Greenwich, three horses throwing him and the wagon off. William H. Pierce of Warren, missing since December 6 en route from Nashville to Warren, arrived home Saturday morning after travels through Salt Lake City and Denver, saying a letter about his change of plans was sent but not received.
James C Dermady an engineer with Charles Parker's company in Meriden was seriously injured in a Monday assault by a plumber named Hamilton over a water pipe quarrel. Hamilton struck Dermady with a gas pipe and was arrested.

In Orange prisoners case at Sr. Johns N F on Jan 28, principal witness Bartholomew Stapleton testified. He said a man named Doyle cried fire and he heard a small firearm report. He claimed to see ten men on the south side of the Orange procession with guns and identified Edmund Butt as among them. He could not swear Doyle fired, only that Doyle struck his leg thrice and shouted fire.

The estate is valued at 30000 to 35000 dollars with John Hooker named executor.
The Columbian Manufacturing Company of Greenville MA the Boston Duck Company Thorndike Mills Cordis Mill Palmer Mill Otis Company Warren Cotton Mills and Nashua Mills all began half time operations today. They produce cotton duck wine and brown denims cheviot shirting and lickings and plan to run indefinitely until market prices improve enough to justify full time production.
C S Bryce president of the National Telegraph Company transferred its capital stock to the Baltimore and Ohio railroad company for cash. The National company controlled four thousand wires between New York and Chicago along the West Shore and Nickel Plate roads with a capital of $1,000,000. David H Mates elected vice president remains in charge of the National property and George D Williams remains general manager.
In Richmond on January 28 the House of Delegates approved two bills already passed by the Senate, both becoming law despite the governor’s veto. The Senate had previously approved a resolution urging Gen. Mahone to resign his seat in the U.S. Senate.
Kansas City reports that in response to alleged scalping of passenger rates by Hannibal and St. Joseph brokers, other railroads join to annul the Kansas City agreement’s coupon ticket ban. Rates will be scalped with penalty until the Chicago meeting on Thursday.
