Barry claimed Morrison merely followed a long standing pattern that left inmates unguarded. Assistant DA McGettrick urged negligence despite no intent to aid the escape. Morrison testified he did not know of a planned escape. Sheriff Seavey confirmed a routine sending 17 inmates with a single unarmed officer to the yard.
