Carrington brothers brought to court for assault on officer
In Municipal Criminal Court Judge Hardy heard complaints against James and William Carrington for assault and battery on Patrolman Smith of Division 3. William faced charges for assault and battery upon an officer. James for assault with intent to kill. The incident occurred at the Carrington home on Fruitcourt after Williams wife Effie Carrington reported the alleged abuse. William, present in bed, refused to help and exchanged harsh words then struck the officer. James entered with a hatchet and struck the patrolman on the forehead, rendering him unconscious. William claimed self defense and the officer struck first. Effie testified the officer struck William multiple times. William was held for the February grand jury in $300.
