Ge o D Sutton of New York writes December 24 1891 to Dr J C Ayer Co Lowell Mass praising Cherry Pectoral for la grippe relief after three weeks with other remedies. He reports almost full relief in three days and cure before finishing the bottle.
In Washington on January 20 the House completed routine business and higher bills. The Senate then focused on the calendar with the first eighteen public building bills, approving allocations of 100000 for Dover New Hampshire and 800000 for Providence Rhode Island.
Negotiations are pending for the sale of the Coal Creek Briceville and Oliver Springs mines where miners revolted and Tennessee militia is stationed. The state aims to sell to the Tennessee Coal and Iron Company to resolve the convict labor conflict and end hostilities.
New York January 20 William Rockefeller of Standard Oil has recovered from a serious blood poisoning caused by a nail in his foot. His wife Mrs Rockefeller also convalesces after poisoning her hand while caring for him.
The monthly Norfolk Unitarian Club meeting at the Vendome drew fifty members who enjoyed the usual dinner and helped establish a new religious club. Officers named: President Edward Atkinson, vice presidents J B Silverston and R C Humphreys, treasurer H French, executive committee Henry L Kelcher E V Mitchel K H Dew son J M Ellis. Seven thousand people gathered last evening for the Boston Chamber of Commerce opening. A grand concert filled the large hall as guests toured offices and admired flower screens, with reception by prominent hosts and a long list of visiting chamber officials from Mobile San Francisco Hartford Atlanta Chicago and other cities. The floor committee and guards managed the throng as the Germania orchestra played selections from Dedication Semiramide and Strauss among others.

In Rio de Janeiro a 160-prisoner mutiny seized Fort Santa Cruz and then Fort Pico and Lage. Brazilian forces, with warship support, stormed and bombarded the forts leading to surrender. The rebel leader died by suicide as troops closed in. Public alarm followed the clash and many kept shops shut.
In Washington on January 20 a meeting of the executive committee of the National Association of Democratic Clubs presided by Rep William L Wilson of West Virginia decided to hold the general committee meeting at the same place and date as the Democratic National Convention. The committee plans place and time for the larger gathering. Membership totals about 200 with 5000 to 6000 clubs listed.
Wasuacoton January 20. The Chicago Anarchist cases Fielden and Schwab v State of Illinois reached for argument in the U S Supreme Court this afternoon. General Benjamin S Butler counsel for the imprisoned men asked for more time and the court granted each side an extra hour. Three hours to each side. Court adjourned for the day.

Auction at Tremont Theatre drew bidders for Cadet Theatrics seats. Orchestra and front balcony sold for Feb 10 12 with top prices around four dollars. Bird the auctioneer spurred lively bidding, pushing total takings higher and keeping speculators away. Auction continues Friday afternoon for Feb 13 seats.
A slight accident occurred on the New England road at Mechanicsville when an axle broke on the engine. Four cars of merchandise were partially wrecked but no one was injured.
