Fresno Dan Identified by Ex Coachman at Identity Hearing

James H. Axford a former Melrose coachman who testified in the Russell estate case said Fresno Dan spoke to him at a hotel in April 1912 and claimed to be him. He recalled a 1909 Melrose police offer offering money for Russell estate details and said he never told anyone about it.

Freight rate rise on cement suspended by ICC

Washington January 15 the Interstate Commerce Commission suspended until May 15 a proposed rate increase from 50 cents to 60 cents a ton on cement hauled from Pennsylvania production points to destinations in the Northeast by the Central of New Jersey Lackawanna Lehigh Valley and Lehigh and New England railroads.

The White Star Line steamer Arabic sailed for Liverpool yesterday with a large general cargo and nearly 300 passengers. Among the saloon passengers was Captain Eva Evans of the Salvation Army who is en route to London to marry an army officer she previously worked with in Cleveland.
