Eight persons were seriously injured and twelve others suffered minor hurts when a Pullman car on a Boston to Albany bound train jumped a switch at Charlton depot and was sideswiped by an east bound freight.
The uncoupled Pullman car caused a rush to the city for medical aid. J. N. Milton, a colored porter, suffered a fractured skull and was thought fatally injured. Others hurt included Ward G. Grant of Springfield with severe cuts, Charles R. Hanlan of Dorchester with a fractured left shoulder, Walter S. Roberts of New York with internal injuries, Thomas H. Kilduff of Boston with a nearly severed left arm, C. B. Potter of Springfield with head and body injuries, Miss Alice Perkins of Springfield, and Joseph T. Norcross of Boston with bruises.
