Boston Albany fireman William J. Ackerman, 22, was thrown between the rails when a drawbar broke between engine and tender. He directed his release and asked helpers not to alarm his ill wife at 8 Electrics Avenue Brighton during the rescue.
While guiding a train of 31 empty cars from Cambridge to Brighton, Ackerman fell under the rear truck as the drawbar broke at the Massachusetts avenue storage house. The engine backed up to free his crushed ankle, and he was taken to Cambridge Relief Hospital where doctors hoped to save his leg despite severe ankle injuries.
Judge John Duff of the Municipal Bench, who sustained a fractured skull in an auto accident, sat up briefly at Massachusetts General Hospital last evening. He remains on the dangerous list. doctors say his condition is not improving.

An explosion at Hazard Powder Works press mill in Hazardville Conn on January 14 killed Charles Blunden and Charles Stocker and seriously injured Elric Trudeau Joseph Trudeau and Charles Vasseur. Several other workers were in the area as the blast wrecked the building and caused extensive property damage. The event is described as the worst in years by local residents.
