Chapter 57, Section 3 of the Revised Laws states that a loaf of bread for sale shall weigh two pounds and may be sold only in whole half three-quarter or quarter loaves unless chiefly rye or maize. The proposed law would bar the hive cent loaf.
In the midst of a severe blizzard Chelsea suffered a major blaze as the Mt. Washington Spring Company plant on Washington avenue Prattville district near Woodlawn Cemetery was fully destroyed.

A large fire in Mt Washington prompted two alarms as a 250 pound carbonic acid tank exploded sending steel fragments 500 feet. Chief Spencer noted nearby vacant buildings prevented further damage while Boston units assisted Chelsea crews. The wooden two story building owned by Bernstein and Rosenthal suffered about 10,000 in losses.
Mayor elect John F Fitzgerald and James J Storrow filed petitions for recounts of Tuesday's mayoralty vote. Storrow seeks recount of his and Fitzgeralds votes while Fitzgeralds team asks recounts for all four candidates. Filings were submitted near the deadline amid excitement.
In probate court today the Fitzgerald and Storrow custody dispute drew tense exchanges and dramatic testimony. Charles F Hall testified about artist Christy’s studio conduct and kept company with details of Keeley institute involvement as Natalie Hall’s custody remains contested.
In Zanesville Ohio on January 14 a custody hearing for Mrs. Howard Chandler Christy exposed a clash of testimonies. Allegations of the artist's scandalous lifestyle and spousal abuse contrasted with Mrs Christy's care for Natalie, nightly prayers with the child, and her devotion despite social expectations.

New York January 14 Mayor Gaynor faced the storm during a trip to his country place at St James Long Island. He was buried in a drift and spent the night with a friend as his ears froze and strength failed. His companion Charles E Shepard of Huntington was blown from a trestle and suffered a broken leg and internal injuries and may die. The mayor saved himself by lying on the trestle and gripping the rails until he recovered some strength.
Weather forecast notes snows for Boston and vicinity this Saturday with colder air and windy conditions. Snow and rain are expected along the coast with northeast gales gradually diminishing Saturday night, followed by generally fair weather and continued cold.
