Walter I. Gallagher aged 28, 5 feet 6 inches, 145 pounds with a dark complexion and hair, slim features. Last seen wearing a dark gray suit, black derby, ulster overcoat, and carrying a suitcase with about $5000 wrapped in a newspaper.
Walter I. Gallagher, an eight year trusted messenger for the American Express Company, fled yesterday with 5000 dollars from the Court square office. He was to deliver the cash to the main office at Franklin street but left his team and disappeared after taking a suitcase. Police suspect a romantic motive involving a girl Gallagher met in Derry New Hampshire.
Police trace a girl named Fannie through H. Bell of Derry as the sole clue in a robbery case. Gallagher is believed to have fled to New York to hide until he writes to his sweetheart. Boston police were alerted and kept the robbery confidential, as did the express company to prevent public news.
Henry C. Fay a 50 year old salesman living at Bedford and Revere streets Lexington died last night after a dispute in front of Isaac's saloon at Court and Sudbury streets. An umbrella thrust stabbed him in the eye and fractured his skull.
Police say Fred L. Delue of Medford a 47 year old bartender at 43 Washington Boston assaulted Fay at Isaacs saloon entrance. Fay with two wooden legs was struck with an umbrella piercing skull and died at Relief Hospital after witnesses saw the attack about 8 15 PM. Delue was arrested at midnight at his home and taken to Joy Street Station after refusing to speak.
In Dover New Hampshire on January 14 a Superior Court jury found John Edward Dame not guilty of murdering Walter S Sterling after about four hours deliberation. Dame was discharged from custody immediately following the verdict.
George C McCabe the Democrat representing Ward 25 was chosen as president of the Common Council. The vote solidifies his leadership role and alignment with party priorities in the city council.
George C. McCabe of Ward 25 Democrat, backed by the Good Government Association, won the Common Council presidency last night on the eighth ballot with 38 votes. Stephen A. Welch received 24 votes, Francis M. Ducey eight, and Edward V. R. Bagley one.
After the seventh ballot a council recess follows a Republican conference. McCabe is backed by 14 votes to 6 while Channing H. Cox of Ward 109, the sole Republican opposing McCabe, votes for Bagley of Ward 1.
