Alma J. Evans, a professional nurse, testified about her observations during John O. Schenk’s illness. The State showed Mrs Schenk instructed Evans to retrieve keys to a bank safe deposit box and notify her before relatives learned of any sudden death.
The witness Mrs. Schenk claimed familiarity with the Schenk family while noting insults from those called Dutch devils. Dr. Charles Glaser testified that an early mineral water sample had three and six tenths grains of arsenic per half gallon and that hyomel quinine Schenk used carried seven grains of sugar of lead per ounce.

Meyer Maltzer of 1278 Tremont Street Roxbury was arrested last night on a warrant after allegedly publicly defacing and contemptuously using an American flag as a paint brush.
Maltzer, who bought a second hand shop at 1278 Tremont Street, tied a paint brush to a six foot flagpole and used it to obliterate the predecessor’s name painted over the entrance sign. Neighbors alerted Patrolman McGarry as he fled the scene. A warrant was sworn and he was arrested on a charge of publicly defacing and treating contemptuously the flag of the United States. The case is set for Roxbury court this morning.
Harrison D. Barrett long time head of the National Spiritual Association died at his mother’s home in Canaan Maine aged 84 after more than a year of illness following an operation. He had traveled across the United States as a lecturer during his 18 year presidency.
Five dead and about a dozen injured in a powerful natural gas explosion that wrecked a 5 and 10 cent store in Cornells ville Pennsylvania. The blast destroyed the building, damaged nine others, and tore out the front wall while sparking fires and knocking down utility lines. Clerks and shoppers were burned as the structure collapsed and rescuers struggled to reach the survivors.
A store explosion killed and burned several workers behind the couriers. A young woman bit a man who tried to rescue her as flames trapped others and a porter vanished after the blast. Shoes identified one victim. others burned beyond recognition. Police and volunteers scoured the ruin by torchlight for more victims.

Christopher Henderson special officer at the Elevated station was knocked out and overpowered by a prisoner he attempted to arrest. Officer Charles Bartick had two fingers bitten off during a struggle with a separate prisoner in City square.

Lucius Tuttle former president of the Boston and Maine railroad underwent an amputation of his left leg yesterday afternoon due to a chronic blood condition. Dr. Samuel J. Mixter, who performed the operation, reported he is resting comfortably and doing well, while declining further details.
Guests in Tomfohrde's cafe were routed out an hour early after a kitchen fire at 10 PM. Fire started from grease igniting a spice prep and spread to the second floor via a weak flue. One firefighter reached the blaze through a second-story window and quenched the fire after cleaning the flue. damages estimated at about $800.
Friends report Mr. Tuttle has suffered a long illness tied to blood disorder. After a prior insect bite he remained secretive about his health. Yesterday Dr. Mixter led a carefully performed operation to remove a troublesome limb and observers noted the patient recovering well with joy among the trained nursing staff.

In Concord New Hampshire January 12 lawyers led by former Senator Chandler filed a petition to void Mrs Mary Baker Ed dys will claiming the bequest to the First Church of Christ Scientist violated state law. If upheld the estate would pass to George W Glover and Dr E J Foster Eddy. The filing seeks construction of the residuary clause and a temporary injunction on disposition of the property pending ruling. It also notes plans to move the case to the state Supreme Court. Ex Senator Chandler disclosed the heirs agreed to inter Mrs Eddy at Mt Auburn Cemetery.
The heirs legal team expands with Hannis Taylor a former minister to Spain and ex federal lawyer in the Alaska boundary dispute.
