Enoch Cousens of Kennebunkport a lifelong Democrat statesman

Biographical sketch notes Enoch Cousens a Democrat from Kennebunkport who held many town offices and multiple terms in the Maine legislature. Born in Kennebunk educated at Kennebunk academy he started in mercantile trade at twenty and also learned surveying conveyancing and insurance. He served as postmaster from 1843 to 1849 deputy collector of customs 1853 to 1861 and ran for senator in 1882 while being elected representative in 1866 1869 1871 and 1884. Always a Democrat.
