Five burglaries plague city as police monitor gang

A wave of burglaries hits Hyde Park and surrounding streets. Thieves broke into a Hyde Park blacksmith shop stealing sledge hammers and chisels, while a Otis Street dry goods store suffered about 200 dollars in merchandise after officers witnessed workers inside before dawn. Other targets included William Callahan’s grocery at 13 South Margin Street and properties on 13 Cambridge Street and 33 Myrtle Street with clothing and coats seized. Banquet of Veterans in Augusta a Great Success

In Augusta Maine January 6 ex members were joined by over 200 veterans for a State House gathering. Yearly boot and shoe shipments rise sharply despite unsettled outlook

The past year saw boot and shoe shipments exceed 1851 by about 200,000 cases as factories ran full time into autumn. Demand for ready made goods remained brisk though profits were slim due to intense competition. For the week, shipments outside New England reached 46,154 cases, while total 1885 shipments hit 2,719,456 cases, up from 2,520,167 last year.
