The United States warship Wabash left Boston harbor at 2 p m yesterday for Newburyport to be destroyed. It was sold as junk to the Boston Iron and Metal Company of Baltimore for $30 000.
Flames burst from the fourth floor of a North End building at 28 Cross Street about 6 15 last night. Two alarms were sounded as the blaze started in Lew Rosenbaum’s cap factory on the fourth floor. The first three floors housed offices and other concerns while the fifth held halls for dances and lodge meetings. District Chief Tabor ordered a second alarm but extra apparatus was not needed. A barber shop on the first floor provided comic distraction as patrons fled with barbers. Total damage near 5000, Rosenbaum bearing most of the loss. lower floors suffered smoke and water damage.
