The schooner Calvin P. Harris from Stonington Maine bound for New York drifted in Long Island Sound for 16 days after getting trapped in a field of ice near Execution Light and the Middle Ground. Fisher fleet tops pier with heavy haddock and cod haul
The Saxonia arrived from Liverpool and Queenstown as eight fishing vessels docked, led by Lizzie M. Stanley with 234000 pounds haddock and 265300 pounds total catch. Shore prices ranged from 4 to 31.5 cents, while luckier crews earned 70 to 127 dollars per man on trips to Georges Bank. Heavy northwest gales limited further fishing, and the market may be bare today.
