York, Feb 24. George Washington noted Boston ladies as elegant and handsome during his 1789 New England tour. A nationwide search is under way for the leather bound diary he kept on that trip, a document analysts say could illuminate the last years of Washington’s life. The notebook, first found in the Congressional Library archives about two decades ago, was uncovered by George R. Prowell and Dr. J. M. Toner during unrelated records research.
Detroit Feb 24 A noted motion picture actress is named among four people who allegedly plotted the murder of film director William Desmond Taylor. Harry M Fields under arrest and sheriff Irving J Coffin report strengthened evidence including a Venice California rent receipt. Fields claims the actress was not present at the shooting scene and identifies Wong Lee Johnny Clark and Jennie Moore as the others involved.
Los Angeles February 24. Mabel Normand, film actress, was reported slightly improved by her physician after being seriously ill with influenza and a nervous breakdown caused by grief over the death of William Desmond Taylor.
A Dublin dispatch to the Press Association says Michael Collins is in bed with influenza and not feeling well. The report notes his illness as of February 24 in London press summaries.

George E. Long a 40 year old War Department clerk confessed to authorship of blackhand letters sent to Henry White and prominent Washington women. Police traced the letters via handwriting and a watermark. Long had served as valet to Major General Clarence Wheeler and traveled widely with him. He was questioned by Inspector Grant and released to home as his wife was ill.
A 69 year old single lodger named 6 Glass was found dead on the floor of a lodging house at 2 Aevum street South End yesterday. Howard Jenkins a fellow lodger reported the death to authorities.
Grace Russell, once courted by Kingston Jeffers, recounts years of jealousy and threats after their breakup. Jeffers shot four bullets at her on a Millis train last night, wounding her as he tried to kill himself, leaving her in a Framingham hospital cot.
Miss Russell and her father Percy Russell of West Medway are central to a fatal shooting on a railroad coach. Jeffers died today in the same hospital where Miss Russell fights to recover, with lingering heartbreak and unresolved longing noted in her measured statement.

In Waco on February 24 Miss Marcie Matthews fired three shots from the witness stand, killing J. B. Crosslin, a real estate man accused of assaulting her. The crowded courtroom caused panic as she claimed he had ruined her health and would not ruin another girl. She was charged with murder.
