Representative Samuel McCall of Massachusetts indicates he will accept the presidency of Dartmouth College upon formal invitation. Negotiations have been ongoing and he is expected to resign from Congress at the end of the current session.
Mr. McCall serves on the Ways and Means committee and chairs the Library committee. He is highlighted as a major figure in the lower house and celebrated for his scholarly attainments.
Hanover N H Feb 19 The unofficial word says Representative Samuel W McCall will accept the Dartmouth trustees invitation to become college president though no formal tender yet. Approval from those connected with the college follows the report amid acknowledged unusual obstacles to his acceptance.

Eight thousand attendees in Mechanics Building listened as Dr Chapman spoke to a 1200 voice choir. About 800 to 1000 moved to the platform seeking prayer while nearly as many stood in place. spectators from balconies joined the crowd in a powerful, unprecedented Boston scene.

Massachusetts brewers push faster delivery to branches as supply chains tighten. The Massachusetts Brewers Company cites guaranteed prompt delivery to retail branches to boost product availability and sales in the region.
Worcester February 19 Clinton A. Borden ex president of the New England Biscuit Co. and a wealthy Worcester figure is sued for breach of promise by Mrs Ella L Hill seeking 15000 damages. Borden says he will fight the case to a finish while Mrs Hill refuses to discuss it. Both are distressed by publication of the suit.
Mr Borden aged 88, former National Biscuit Company president, lived at a Sagamore Road residence in Bancroft Park and later married Bertha Freeman. Mrs Hill, 32, once ran a Worcester boarding house and a Cambridge lodging home, later moving to Brant Rock. she and Borden were said to be seen together and possibly engaged. Hill’s former husband George H Hill secured a cruel and abusive divorce and many later court actions over child Agnes. Hill served in Worcester’s Light Infantry. her ex husband fought in the war with a second wife.
Washington brief states General Mor teza Khan Persian minister to the United States received his Master Mason degree at a lodge ceremony with other legation members in attendance.
Jem Driscoll and Abe Attell grappled in a 10 round match at the National Athletic Club New York with Driscoll slightly ahead on points. Both weighed 125 pounds and no decision was allowed under state rules.
Washington headlines a civil bill approving 1.2 million dollars to continue the 55 foot channel work at Boston Harbor, 62 thousand for Arsenal machinery and sanitation at Watertown, and 15 thousand for new testing gear. The measure also appropriates 600 thousand for surveys covering multiple harbors and rivers in Massachusetts and surrounding areas.

The steamer John H. Starin from New Haven lies off the outer breakwater a mile from Bridgeport harbor amid a terrific gale. The tug Sadie McWilliams, seeking safe harbor for its barges, went to aid but could not reach the passenger vessel and returned to its dock.
A southeast gale drove the steamer from New Haven to the harbor where it listed and leaked. Tug crews from New Haven and New York aided nine passengers as the Starin ran aground on the breakwater after a perilous voyage.
President elect William H. Taft was tonight made a Knocker at sight by Cincinnati’s Knocker organization. The auxiliary group of businessmen and professionals welcomed him at a packed dinner. The club, which can admit or dismiss members at will, is known for its annual dinners.
The president-elect avoided a formal speech, hailed by townsmen as a private citizen farewell. For 20 years he escaped public oratory. Sixteen banquet tables featured costumed Knockers representing foreign nations, each delivering a message. Emperor William sent a wireless kiss on each cheek.

Miss Laura Bland is dead and Miss Emma Bland and John Brown lie dying after a murderous attack at their Newton home last night. Brown shot Laura and Emma then turned the revolver on himself. Both women were gravely wounded. Emma’s condition remained critical at Newton Hospital.
