Watertown February 18 14 year old Frank Crossland son of Mr and Mrs Samuel Crossland of 38 Summer Street was struck by classmate John Scanlon and died moments later. Police say Scanlon admitted striking the blow. He said I hit him back though not really intending to hurt him. We were chums.
Two pupils from Marshall Spring School on Waverly Avenue got into a street fight in front of William O’Brien’s residence at 17 Waverly Avenue. Crossland died within minutes from a stomach blow after the scuffle. Scanlon described the sequence and was released to his father pending a post mortem set for tomorrow morning. Police and the medical examiner investigated, with authorities handling the body and the scene.
More than 1000 babies gathered at the Roman Catholic Church of the Gesu in Philadelphia for a mass that served as an object lesson on fears of race death by own action. Father Casey led the service and, with two acolytes, sprinkled holy water over the children as they processed through the aisles.

Washington February 18. Senator Lafollette and Senator Penrose exchanged sharp words. Penrose alleged Lafollette lied and accused him of absenteeism to stall Senate business. Lafollette defended his voting record and dismissed the accusation as coarse.
The heated discussion extended over minutes as Senator Penrose shouted in anger while Senator Lafollette remained cool. Lafollette criticized how appropriation bills are handled and cited delays in interstate commerce and pure food legislation.

Judge J B Richardson of the Superior Court nullifies Graves’s selection as head of the Republican city committee citing improper election. Dr Benjamin F Campbell and other East Boston Republicans had pushed to remove Graves after a lengthy legal fight over eligibility and legality of the leadership choice.
Judge Richardson bases his decision on a 1907 act codifying caucuses and elections. Graves, though defeated for Ward 1 committee, was elected president of the Republican city committee amid disputed proceedings and irregularities at the January 26 meeting.
