Secretary of the Navy reports the Maine blown up in Havana Harbor at 9 40. Many wounded and likely more killed or drowned. Jenkins and Merritt unaccounted for. officers believed saved. Lighthouse tenders dispatched from Key West for sailors and gear. Paymaster Littlefield replaced by Ryan. Jenkins a Pennsylvania cadet turned ensign in 1888. Merritt Iowa origin, ex Indiana sailor.
The Hal Minstrels performed at Minot Hall in an Utopian Club minstrel show featuring club members and guests. About 600 attended including city representatives. Harry Walper led the production with Jasper directing bones and a chorus of men and women. music by Mrs. J. Machel and Martin Witte and guests from local groups. The program included songs by Miss Robinson and Miss Charack, with dancing to close the night.
