Steamer Lost with 87 Lives in Canary Island Wreck

The French liner Flatchat bound Marseille to Colon wrecked at Anaga Point Canary Islands in fog and heavy seas. Thirty-eight crew and forty-nine passengers perished. eleven crew and one passenger saved. Survivors were taken to Santa Cruz by the steamer Susu.

Maine survivors reach Key West after Havana voyage

The steam er Olivette arrived in Key West at 10:30 tonight with sixty two Maine survivors aboard. The ship left Havana seven and a half hours earlier carrying rescued men from the wreck. Pope Leo XIII. sent his benediction.

Gatekeeper Thomas Moran Killed By Express Near Chelsea Crossing

Thomas Moran aged 45 of Everett, gate-keeper at West Third Street crossing Chelsea, was killed yesterday afternoon when he was struck by the Rockport express on the Boston & Maine Eastern division tracks. Moran, who had 18 years service, was signaling a freight train and may have been blinded by the storm. He leaves a wife and family.

Survivors Reach Florida After Maine Disaster

Naval court of inquiry urged to determine cause. In Key West reports say divers may reveal internal explosion or deep laid plot by Spaniards. Sailors voice belief in Spaniard involvement and tensions rise. Captain Sigbee suspects a floating torpedo and requests naval engineers be sent. Olivette and return timings noted.
