The chief electrician from the Jacob Jones was reported dead in a disaster but reappeared in Brockton after drifting 32 hours in an open boat. He delivered an account of the incident and survivors.
Lawrence G. Kelley chief electrician of the destroyer Jacob Jones, sunk by a German submarine on December 6, arrived in Brockton after drifting 32 hours in a crippled motorboat. He escaped by jumping into the damaged boat and will report to the Boston navy yard for service.
New England fuel administrators after a day at the State House decide to continue heatless Mondays. They appeal to President Wilson for relief and request more ships to transport coal to the region to avert a deeper coal shortage.
Fuel Administrator Storrow says the Monday holiday could be lifted after next Monday or extended for five weeks. Meanwhile the Boston fuel committee, with City Conservator Stone, refused to extend retail store closing time from 4 45 to 5 15. Continued on Page S Fifth Column.
Bolo Pasha, noted German propagandist, is sentenced to death by firing squad for treason to France. The Paris court-martial deliberated only 15 minutes. Co-defendant Filippo Cavallini is condemned to death though not under the court’s jurisdiction. co-defendant Darius Porchere receives three years in prison.
In New York investigators found conclusive proof that a large payment from German money was routed via former German Ambassador Bernstorff to Bolo and confederates. The funds aimed to corrupt French statesmen and newspapers to push for a separate peace with Germany.
Jonesport Maine February 14 The coast guard Virginia found Eugene Beal and Charles Senfesty of Beals marooned on Flat Island for five days after their boat was destroyed by rough seas Distress flags alerted patrol They were rescued and brought to Beals by the coast guard crew who then walked five miles back to their station.
Count Czernin the Austro Hungarian foreign minister will deliver a long statement to the delegations of the two kingdoms on Saturday. The Vienna despatch notes the speech will address Brest Litovsk negotiations and President Wilsons latest address.

Montreal report says 38 children recovered from the ruins of the Grey Nunnery after a devastating blaze. Officials fear the death toll could reach 100 as searchers continue the grim work.
All inmates of the great building escaped except the children. Nuns and nursing sisters aided the sick and wounded and infants. Nearly a thousand evacuated to safety as flames spread rapidly in the west wing. No soldiers were injured though about twenty were housed there.

A retired captain records Cross Rip Lightship missing in a Cape Cod vicinity prompting concern for six families. The log also lists several ships with one marked navigated into Delaware Breakwater, hinting at ship traffic and peril off Woods Hole.
Ten days after ice and gale tore from anchors, Cross Rip lightship is declared missing with six crew. Officials fear the craft may have foundered on shoals as ice covered its decks. Inspector R L Goddard orders a powered replacement ship equipped with proper markings and light to replace the missing beacon.
A sweeping French order announced by Ansel R. Clark in Boston says no duty will be collected on packages sent to American soldiers in France. Prohibited from the mails are solidified alcohol matches cigar lighters and similar articles. Aside from identity checks the order imposes no further interference on such packages.
